What is Buttox Augmentation?
Foremost, it's important to understand that buttock implants are of a
different consistency than breast implants because they are made of solid
silicone. Hence, they will feel
completely different and much firmer.
Because the gluteal region of the body is not easily enlarged by weight
training or shaped by diet, many people choose to seek the help of a cosmetic
surgeon who can perform this delicate procedure. Generally, anyone in average physical
condition or good health can be a candidate for buttock augmentation surgery.

Surgical Procedure Overview:
Buttock implants are positioned sub-facially, within the
gluteal maximus, generally through a single incision within the gluteal
separator. They are positioned to look
as natural as possible for the optimal cosmetic effect. Pain medications are prescribed to help with
the discomfort, which, in some cases can be significant and varies from patient
to patient. Generally though, the
patient is able to move about, walking, and sitting more comfortably after
approximately 5-7 days. Full physical
activities are usually permitted within a month after surgery. Surgical risks may include: infection,
bleeding, nerve and/or muscle damage, slippage and asymmetry.
Procedure:
With the patient asleep (general anesthesia) a two to three
inch incision is made between the buttocks in the midline. Through this
incision the buttock muscle (gluteus maximus) is lifted up and a pocket is made
just large enough for the implant. Both sides are carefully examined in order
to assure that the results
look natural and symmetric. The patient may be very uncomfortable the
first several days but this will soon fade.
Results can be seen immediately. The buttocks look more
natural and become softer as the muscle stretches during the several months
after surgery. Outdoor activities can be resumed four to eight
weeks following surgery.
