Although healthy diet and exercise routines provide the best way to lose excess weight and fat, sometimes even the most intense workouts or other traditional weight-loss methods are ineffective at eliminating stubborn deposits of fat on the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

Good liposuction candidates are individuals who are in relatively good shape and have good skin quality, but have trouble losing unwanted fat in specific areas including the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.

Liposuction is not a substitute for exercise or dieting, nor is it a solution for removal of cellulite, a condition causing an uneven, dimpled appearance of skin.

 What does liposuction involve?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that improves the shape and contour of targeted body areas by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a tube and vacuum device.

The tumescent technique involves infusion of fat cells with saline solution and local anesthetic before liposuction. This technique lasts between two and three hours and helps reduce bruising and swelling.

What should I expect following liposuction?

The healing and recovery process varys, depending upon body type and liposuction technique used. Generally, swelling and bruising is to be expected after surgery. Swelling will subside after about a week, while bruises may take up to three weeks to fade. Scarring is very minimal with this procedure.
The day after your procedure you will need to ease into gentle activity (walking) to promote blood circulation. You will be able to return to work and social activities within one to two weeks and resume strenuous activity between two and four weeks. However, full recovery from swelling and bruising may take one to six months or more depending upon your procedure type. Liposuction results are permanent with sensible diet and exercise.

Risks associated with the liposuction include infection, asymmetry of body contour, rippling or bagginess of skin, pigmentation changes, skin injury, fluid retention, or excessive fluid loss leading to shock.
